Lawsuit Filed Against Kennedy Over COVID Vaccine Policy Change
A COVID vaccine policy lawsuit has been filed in Boston federal court against US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. A group of doctors and public health organizations filed the case on Monday. The plaintiffs include the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Public Health Association, four additional groups, and a pregnant doctor who works at a Boston hospital.
Health Officials Earlier Supported Annual Vaccination
For years, U.S. health officials recommended annual COVID-19 vaccination for everyone aged six months and older. This guidance followed advice from infectious-disease experts. However, in late May, Secretary Kennedy removed COVID vaccination for healthy children and pregnant people from the CDC’s recommendations. As a result, medical experts raised concerns immediately.
Experts Criticized Kennedy’s Move
Many health experts criticized Kennedy’s decision. They said the change created confusion and ignored the long-standing scientific review process. Usually, experts publicly evaluate medical evidence and discuss the benefits and risks of any policy change. According to critics, this transparent process did not take place.
Lawsuit Claims Lack of Transparency
The COVID vaccine policy lawsuit argues that Kennedy and his team violated constitutional rules while changing the vaccine policy. The plaintiffs claim that they misled the public and failed to maintain transparency. They also allege that Kennedy removed all 17 members of the government’s vaccine advisory panel and replaced several of them with anti-vaccine individuals.
Doctors Express Growing Concerns
Doctors say the policy shift has increased fear among patients. Many parents now question routine vaccines. Dr. Susan Kressley, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said confusion appears during almost every child screening. Meanwhile, pediatric flu deaths in the U.S. have reached a 15-year high. Measles cases are also rising rapidly, and experts warn that the situation could become the worst in 30 years.
In response, HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said that Secretary Kennedy supports reforms within the CDC.
COVID Vaccines Missing in Pharmacies
The doctor identified as “Jane Doe” said she cannot find COVID vaccines in pharmacies. She fears that the shortage may put her baby’s health at risk. Attorney Richard Hughes added that many residents in Boston and Massachusetts are directly impacted by this decision.
