How to update your KYC information for SBI Fastag

If you are using the SBI Fastag or the Electronic Toll Collection System, you will need to update your KYC information every now and then in order to use it without any problems. Here’s how to do it in a few simple steps!

What is Fastag?

If you have ever traveled across any state border in India, then you will know that carrying a toll pass is almost mandatory. But if you are driving down through Maharashtra-Gujarat border, then there is some more good news. This is because recently State Bank of India has introduced a new electronic toll collection system called ‘Fastag’ in association with Maharashtra Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (MIMTS). It was on 1 November 2017 when SBI launched its new digital tag system on four routes: Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Delhi-Jaipur highway and Ahmedabad -Mehsana Highway.

Things you need to know about updating KYC

When updating your KYC (Know Your Customer) details with State Bank of India’s (SBI) FastAg, there are a few things you need to know. In order to make sure you complete everything properly, here’s what you should keep in mind: Most services are not available while updating your details. Please keep in mind that if you’re able to select a payment service when logging into FastAg or opening an account, it means that you’ve previously completed all of these steps and can skip straight through. Users must fill out their full name exactly as shown on their Aadhaar card or PAN card.

Steps to complete KYC on the app

The app is very user-friendly and can be easily downloaded from any application store. The three steps you need to follow are: fill out all required fields, verify and confirm your details by clicking on ‘KYC Done’ button and pay a nominal fee of Rs 50 using debit/credit card or net banking. Once all three steps are completed, you will receive an e-challan on your registered mobile number with a unique reference number within five minutes. Note down these details in case of any further queries later. This e-challan needs to be carried while visiting an outlet of an empanelled fuel company which has been authorized by SBI.

General guidelines of updating your details on the website

It is highly recommended that you create a password that has at least eight characters with a mix of upper and lower case letters, special characters, numbers and even symbols. Keep in mind that Passwords should never be shared with anyone or you will be in breach of security guidelines. As part of these guidelines, we suggest using a combination of words from an online dictionary (as opposed to using simple terms like names or dates) as well as password manager applications such as Dashlane , LastPass or Keeper.

What are the things you should be cautious about while updating KYC?

Banks and financial institutions have tightened their KYC (Know Your Customer) guidelines due to recent security breaches. To ensure a safe online experience, it is necessary that you provide accurate and genuine details while updating your KYC.  In such cases, banks were not able to match Aadhaar name with that of PAN or any other document’s name.

Examples where incorrect or incomplete data can lead to fines, suspensions and cancellations.

Any time you are required to submit documents, you should make sure they are always up-to-date. This is true whether you are submitting them on behalf of yourself or another person (you can submit multiple vehicles on one application). Any mistake could lead to fines, suspensions and cancellations. Make sure there is nothing misspelled and that all required fields are filled out completely. You need only include one document from a set; do not send all four documents even if they match, if you have only purchased three services.
