First impressions are made in seconds, which makes them vitally important for new acquaintances and first dates alike. When you’re on a first date, you want to put your best foot forward, but you also want to show off your style and personality.
Finding the right balance of casual and formal in terms of your clothing can be difficult — but once you get the formula down, it’s easy to do over and over again every time you go out on another date! The key is to be yourself while still being aware of what other people will think of your outfit choice.

How did you become interested in fashion?

Growing up, I was always fascinated by style and beauty. As I grew older, my interest only grew and I started to think about working in the industry myself. When it came time to go to college, however, my parents were not happy about me leaving Russia so they convinced me to become a doctor. It wasn’t what I had dreamed of doing with my life but eventually, I came around and decided to take their advice.
After years of studying medicine in school, a friend’s invitation made me question the path that was laid out for me-eventually leading to an epiphany moment where I decided that it wasn’t too late for a career change!

What are some trends you are loving right now?

I think the cutest trend I’ve been seeing is high-waisted pants paired with a crop top. It’s such a cute look! The only downside is that high-waisted pants have to be tailored so they are quite expensive. I’m also loving culottes right now too!

Are there any items you find yourself reaching for on repeat this season?

This summer I found myself gravitating towards the romper trend. These are essentially shorts and a top that combine to make one item of clothing, so you can look cute without breaking a sweat. But even though I love them, they weren’t all as easy to pull off as they may seem.
The challenge is to find the right size and proportion that suits your body type because not all combinations will work. For example, a short-waisted girl with long legs should go for something flowy and light whereas someone with shorter legs should try shorter rompers or jumpsuits so the proportions stay balanced.

Where do you find inspiration as a designer?

Where do I find inspiration? Everywhere! It’s my job to be looking at the latest trends and stay on top of the latest design and tech trends. Being a designer is such a balancing act because you have to anticipate what will come next as well as creating a product that people are going to love right now. The secret is to always look out for things that are trending but also pull your own flavor into it, so people can identify your style with your brand.

What was your favorite part about NYFW (or NYM)?

NYFW was an incredible experience, a true test of what the high end industry is like. It was so different from Moscow Fashion Week, which I always thought was a much more laid back show. In Moscow everyone would turn up to support the brands they liked and make comments on each other’s outfits and makeup but that sense of community just wasn’t there at NYFW.

Most people were too busy trying to get through the crowds or waiting in long lines for things like food or clothing to do anything else; meanwhile here you don’t see many street style photographers (so it’s hard to find photos of your outfit) and everything feels very corporate.

Is there anything exciting coming up in the future?

The street style from Russia has been on the rise, so it makes sense that one of the top bloggers in the region would be living and blogging here. As a native of Moscow, Lera is known for her laid-back cool style. Her mood boards reflect a mélange of influences ranging from contemporary designers to vintage looks.
You’ll never see her fussing with her hair or makeup while she’s out snapping photos–or any celebrities with whom she crosses paths. That’s part of what makes her approachable and relatable; she is an everywoman who happens to look fabulous doing it.
